Know these cold

  1. Static routes: manually configured, no overhead, no failover. Dynamic routing: protocols auto-discover paths and adapt to topology changes.
  2. IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) operates within an AS: OSPF (link-state, SPF algorithm), EIGRP (Cisco, hybrid), RIP (distance-vector, max 15 hops).
  3. BGP (Border Gateway Protocol): EGP used between ISPs and on the internet. Path-vector algorithm using AS-path as metric.
