Know these cold

  1. IPv4 32-bit; written in dotted decimal (4 octets). Classes: A (0–127, /8), B (128–191, /16), C (192–223, /24).
  2. Private ranges: 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, 192.168.0.0/16. APIPA: 169.254.0.0/16.
  3. VLSM: variable-length subnet masking allocates differently-sized subnets from one address block to conserve IPs.
