Know these cold

  1. Firewall types: packet-filtering (ACLs), stateful inspection (tracks connection state), NGFW (application-layer, IPS, SSL inspection).
  2. DMZ: screened subnet exposing public services (web, email) while protecting internal network. Double-firewall model.
  3. Defense in depth: perimeter (firewall) → network (IDS/IPS/VLANs) → host (antivirus/EDR) → data (encryption) → user (MFA).
